Disabling a Processor

  • Subject: Disabling a Processor

I have code that works perfectly on a G4 PowerBook - but will lock up on my Dual G5 machine.

If I run the code in debug mode on the G5 - I can break the deadlock by pausing and then continuing execution.

I tested on the Dual G5 by typing the following into the terminal and then rebooting:
sudo nvram boot-args="cpus=1"

After reboot - there are no hangups on the dual G5 - which makes me believe the 2 processors are competing for a shared resource but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is.

My code is a pure Java application - I also have a version that is in Objective-C Cocoa. They both exhibit the same odd behavior.

Is there a setting in XCode to tell it to use just one processor?

Thanks,
Scott
