C99 setting experience

I want to use C99.

1. Get Info on Target
2. Click Build Pane
3. Type in C99
4. C Language Dialect appears
5. Value is "Compiler Default"
6. Click (*) to change it to C99

Now...compile, get an error (something else), but just to double check, let's make sure the Build Style isn't somehow overriding this.

1. Get Info on the project
2. Click Styles pane
3. Type in C99
4. C Language Dialect appears
5. Value is "Compiler Default" -- shouldn't this show C99 since that is what I have set for the target?

(*) I really dislike the pop-ups in the Info lists. When I make the window wide, the pop-up arrows are at the right-hand edge and do not "feel" like anything connected to the content. The UI for these property lists is just really different and feels wrong. I mean a pop-up menu in the column header to filter? (All Settings, Customized Settings, etc.). That's Just Wrong.
