Slow and bloated?

For a very small project, I have an 83MB build folder. Is this normal?

Also, Xcode's compiles are frustratingly slow. For an equivalent CodeWarrior project, the compile would be near instant even with all the optimisations and maze of header includes going on.

Is that normal? I find it hard to do proper development with such a slow IDE. g++ from the terminal seems to be much faster, though. I wonder why?
