I only had to un-bin the first segment ( the one with no number ) and
then I double clicked
on it to mount the disk image that uses the remaining bin files.

I attempted to get the XCode 1.2 CD from the ADC site, however I was
confused and stopped. I did not see any instructions indicating how

install the various "dmg.bin" and "dmgpart.bin" files. Once I

and decompress them, what then? Then again, should I even decompress
them?

Just double-click on the first segment [once you've un-bin'ed them].
MacOS X 10.3.x will automatically use all the parts to mount the disk
image
[assuming you've put all the parts in the same directory and have not
renamed them].
