No, I'm talking about both, and much more specifically about Xcode.
Xcode is a nice IDE and it uses gcc. I want to know: is there some
Xcode setting that will make Xcode build with g++ instead of gcc for a
particular project. g++ is a given. It's there, it comes with the
developer tools, it runs fine off the command line; it's not a problem
unless I want to use it inside the IDE.

What do you mean by "special compiler file"? ... If you mean
settings, you want to use 'make'.
Are you telling me that I can't use xcode with g++, I have to write a
makefile and do it all on the command line (or with another IDE)?
I believe there's something called a build style that can be customised
with some variable definitions in some configuration file somewhere. I
know this is extremely vague, but I'm having trouble finding more
detail.
