Have run into the very same problem. It seems that the OS X 10.3.3 that comes with the newer Powerbooks has a different version of Darwin to the 10.3.3 from Software Update. Distributed builds will only work if the Darwin version is exactly the same.


To overcome the problem we used the System disks that came with the newer Powerbooks to update the System on the older machines to 7.3.1 (the OS stays at 10.3.3). This fixed the distributed building problem, but a warning: it also caused building and linking problems. The solution (as provided by myself and others) is in the archives. Search for crt1.o gcrt1.o and bundle1.o.
