I also have a similar problem, however I use Mac line endings, XCode
1.5 and Metrowerks compatible key bindings. I also check my source in
and out of a Perforce SCM database.
How it manifests itself is "sometimes" - not all the time - if the
cursor is at the left hand end of a line and hit return, it doesn't
always put in an extra line. It put's in some kind of dummy line which
causes the line numbers in the gutter to overwrite each other. This
really screws up compile error reporting, debugging and insertion
points. If the cursor is anywhere else on the line, no problem.
I haven't changed to default key bindings but it's been bugging me and
I've put up with it for some time now.
Anyone from Apple listening know if this has been reported?
Don.
Benjohn,
But it's all _fine_ now. I was wondering how everyone had put up with
these outrageous bugs for so long: but of course, no one else has
them.
It isn't just you. The return key in Xcode when I am editing my Obj-C
projects (projects I created from scratch) works fine: one hit on
return
makes a new line. However, I get the same effect as you describe when
I
edit C++ files in projects created by other folks, like the Apple
sample
code: one hit on the return makes a smudgy line number appear in the
line
number column; the second hit on return makes the actual new line. It
is
driving me crazy too.
I tried your solution, resetting the custom key bindings, but it does
not
fix anything. In fact my key bindings were already set to the Xcode
default. I am running Xcode 1.1.
Thank you, Benjohn, for reporting this fine little feature. I did not
want
to be the first one!
