There's no public API for this currently.

However, implementation is based on indexing the 'apple_ref' markers in the doc files. These markers are self-describing according to a system outlined in:

http://developer.apple.com/documentation/DeveloperTools/Conceptual/ HeaderDoc/anchors/chapter_7_section_1.html

So, it would be possible to create your own index and front-end to it.

If you select something and right-click, one of the choices is "find selected text in API reference". Is there any way that could be fired off from the command line? It would be nice to be able to implement something similar as a UNIX script from within bbedit.
