in my nsis PC app, I test for admin privs and act accordingly, is there an equivalent for Mac ?
if he is not admin, then the movie launches with an unchanged xml file...or maybe a download xml file generated by php

I have just started learning xcode....

has anyone written an app that contains the structure

App...
-Contents
movie.qtl
-Library
	preferences.xml

in this case an xml file is dynamically written which gets Language Code, CPU, RAM, and System Version. If all the 'tests' are passed, the app launches movie.qtl . If the tests fail, then new versions of the movie, xml file, and updated QT are downloaded from a remote server

This will not work if the user is a non-admin user, since he probably won't have write
access to the /Applications folder.

[ Of course, he could install your app in ~/Applications, but he probably won't....]
