You should first get a super beginner book on the C programming language and
try to at least absorb the syntax so you can understand the code examples.

You might as well get Kernighan & Ritchie, too, because it's the C bible,
but not the greatest tutorial.

I would also get Aaron Hillegass's book on Cocoa and work through it
cover-to-cover.

Then I think you'd be equipped to explore the examples and documentation
that come with XCode. You also might consider adding the very excellent
"Cocoa Programming" reference book by Anguish, Buck & Yacktman, which covers
a lot of the Cocoa framework in great depth.

Also, you might try signing up for the Cocoa list, which is much more active
than the XCode list.
