In my experience, this is a wrong VM loading problem (1.3.1 instead of 1.4.2). In Cocoa-Java projects (with non-native targets), I usually fix this by changing the needed VM version in the Pure Java pane of the target settings (which adds a flag to Info.plist). Jar Bundler should do something similar, so try bundling a Jar to work with 1.4 and then examine the .app's Info.plist file to find the key. That should fix your VM/wrong minor problems.
