I may have run across a problem with XCode + Subversion corrupting
repositories, but I'm not sure, so I'd like to know if others have had
the same problems. Here is what I've done, maybe others have had
similar experiences?
1) Attached the encrypted disk image that holds all of my sources.
2) Created a repository on that disk, imported and checked out my
sources using the command line
3) Brought up XCode, made some minor test changes, saved the files, then
committed everything back to the repository
4) Restarted the machine (WITHOUT quitting XCode first; I wanted to
model my normal work flow...)
5) Reattached the disk image
6) ran svn log in my project
...and that hung for about 10 minutes. I tried to use CTRL-C to break
out, but the process wasn't accepting it. I closed terminal window
itself, looked at the running processes, and discovered that svn was a
zombie. I then killed it and tried to run svn cleanup to unwedge
things, but even that hung on me. I then deleted the repository and all
of the .svn directories in my project and did the whole process above a
second time, but this time I quit XCode before restarting. Same
results; everything was hung.
After I turned off the SCM integration in XCode and went to just using
the command line, things seemed to even out.
The problems are that
a) I'm new to Subversion, and may have done something wrong.
b) I have no clue as to what the heck I'm really doing with Subversion
as related to XCode.
c) I'm worried about how reliable everything is, and whether or not I
should wait a while before really getting on the svn+XCode bandwagon.
I'd like to know if anyone else has done anything similar to what I'm
doing, and if they have had problems.
Thanks,
Cem Karan
