Text Editing Slowness After Debugger Quits

After closing the debugger on command line c++ projects, my primary
editing window gets really slow.  If I leave the debugger open, this
doesn't happen.  Is this a known problem, or am I doing something
wrong?  I've tried repairing permissions, disk repair, reinstalling,
and trashing the prefs to no avail.  This is my first post on this
list, and I could only find archives for sept 04, so I apologize if
this has been covered before.  Thanks a lot...
