How to change name of a nib file?

I have a nib file, already included in a Cocoa project. After some
significant changes in the project, the name of the nib is now
inappropriate.
I know the name can be changed by bringing up an Inspector window. But the
last time I tried to do this, I ran into some problems. I can't recall the
details, but I think the localization (only English for this progam) was
lost, and maybe some other connections were hosed.
Are there any tricks to doing this safely?
