Is the Show/Hide Control Characters in the Format menu doing anything at all?

I would expect it to highlight tabs, LFs, invisible spaces etc. in the code editors, but nothing like that happens to me. I use XCode 1.5 with .cpp source files in UTF-8 encoding. I started a brand new project with this.

What usually happens is that I press option-space on my intl' keyboard (after the braces). Looks like normal but will break the build. Clumsy fingers, what gives...

"Show Control Characters" shows control characters such as Ctl-A as "^A". It doesn't do much else. This functionality has been improved for Xcode 2.0.
