I posted this question to the discussions forum, but perhaps this list is a better location to get an answer.

"Despite employing authenticated ssh keys on the server, forcing environment variables into the terminal and the .MacOSX/environment.plist file to force global CVSROOT and CVS_RSH values which work perfectly well from the terminal, with no authentication whatever, Xcode still cannot execute the [CVS] authentication properly"
