It cycles from all-source to source-and-disassembly-side-by-side to
all-disassembly. If it doesn't, please file a bug describing what it
does on your system.
If you only see disassembly, then the debugger cannot find the source
file for the current stack frame.

I thought it must doing something much more complex - e.g. remembering
the state for each stack frame or so.
Actually, it does not behave as you decribed it, or what would be
reasonable. It is most often unable to view the dissassembled sources -
or takes ages till the assembly view is updated.
There is possibly a bug in viewing the dissassembled source - possibly
because of the source.This also affects the debugger - which stops
suddenly and does not work anymore.
I'll file a bug - but it certainly needs further investigation.
