I have a Dual 2.0GHz G5, with 1.5G of RAM. I don't get the
impression that adding RAM would improve my build times at all. When
you consider the highly distributable nature of compiling, I don't
think any discrete moment during the build process needs a
particularly large amount of RAM unless you've got insanely huge
source files.

Hi,
I am transitioning from CW 9 to Xcode and currently have 2GB in my
dual 2.5 GHz G5. What kind of speed ups should I expect for
compiles and debugging if I were to invest into an additional 2 GB?
I know those things cannot be quantified exactly because it will
depend on the size of the project, etc., but my guess is some kind
of generic assessment of whether benefits can be expected to be
minimal, notable, or pronounced should be possible (perhaps based
on own experiences).
It is my experience that Xcode compared to CW is dead slow, so
anything I can do to speed it up would be useful, but I would not
want to waste money on getting more memory if it is not likely to
make much of a difference.
Thanks,
david.
