Did you read the part of that article that said: "All numbers are expressed in microseconds"? They should have put the units in the tables of numbers. They are talking about a whole different issue.
gcc is slower than other compilers because, well ... because it has not been optimized as much as some other compilers.
Xcode gets slow because it needs some design improvements (that is different than optimizing a code base).
that said, I like Xcode! For me it is fast and works really well (on over 1,000 source code files, millions of lines of code base, etc.). So, I have no complaints ...
