I just had the exact same problem. My system had been updated step-by-
step from I guess 1.3.x (with x < 5). I got a new G5 recently and did a
clean install, starting from 10.3.5 and applying the update to 10.3.7.
All I can say that Shark with Java now works again without crashes. It
did *not* help to just re-install CHUD 4.0.2 on my old machine.

So, either re-installing the OS and developer tools, or the hardware
change to a G5DP (from a G4DP) made Shark work again. Unfortunately, I
cannot say which change made the difference.

I posted a message about this on java-dev (<http://lists.apple.com/
archives/java-dev/2005/Jan/msg00268.html>), is your crashlog the same? If
so, you might want to try to run Shark from a freshly installed system.
If that works, it's probably some system corruption that occurs at
updating step-by-step from earlier versions. If not and you are using a
G4, it might actually be an issue depending on the processor hardware. If
it is, please file a bug report and refer to Apple bug ID 3960965 (which
is the one I filed but revoked when Shark started to work again after new
system installation and hardware).

HTH, Christian.
