opening in a separate editor window

Suddenly double clicking a file (XCode 1.5) in the project opens it up in the previous editor window (only 1 editor window open). Control-click still works, but I want all double-clicks to open up a new window. I can't seem to find the preference for this. It used to work, but I don't know what I set to turn it off…
