MySQL Manager type app

I'm trying to duplicate some of the things being done in MySQL Manager, while I have the interface built, authentication working and updating the GUI with the lock/unlock icon I need the routine that modifies the "hostconfig" file and the routine that starts and stops the mysql daemon. (I can change this to start/stop my daemon)

Anyone have this or something similiar?

The finished product is freeware so all I can offer is contribution credit for it.
