Some quick questions

Sorry to bother you again,

I don't have the directory tree rooted in /sw/ on my system (I am working from a fresh install of Tiger). I see it mentioned quite a bit in searches, but it seems to be that everyone has it, and I can't figure out why I don't. Is this really a directory tree? Is it related to having Fink or X11 installed? And, finally, why is it looking, and failing to find libraries, in /sw/lib/, when they exist in /usr/local/lib/?

Note: doing -L/usr/local/lib -lpng with the contents of the /usr/ local/lib/ being (filtered to just libpng* .dylib's):

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 191244 Apr 17 08:44 libpng.3.1.2.8.dylib
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 20 Jul 2 15:56 libpng.3.dylib -> libpng.3.1.2.8.dylib
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 14 Jul 2 15:56 libpng.dylib -> libpng.3.dylib

The error from the linker is:

/usr/bin/ld: warning can't open dynamic library: /sw/lib/libpng. 3.dylib (checking for undefined symbols may be affected) (No such file or directory, errno = 2)

Which leads me to believe that it is finding the symbol link from libpng.dylib to libpng.3.dylib, but then looking for libpng.3.dylib in /sw/lib. I simply can't understand why this is happening...

Thanks again,

Andrew
