Thanks to everyone, I now know how to use c++filt.  Does anyone know if there is a library version of it?  I just realized that I could really use a Python interface to it (actually, to all of the binutils) and starting with a library of some kind would be easier than command line scraping...

First, for your best experience you should always drive c++filt with the flag that specifies the format you're using. in this case, c++filt --format=gnu-v3 for Apple's C++ compilers.

Second, if you want the source of c++filt, there's always

http://sourceware.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/src/binutils/cxxfilt.c?rev=1.6&cvsroot=src
