When I'm doing a full build, I'll enable distcc and have 7 CPUs
crunching on it (G3, G4, 2x Dual G4, G5), and it's WAY faster than
just the Dual 1.42 G4, but you're right, trying to edit during a
build is not fun.
I would rather write code by hand on paper than attempt to use even
the fastest powerbook for development. My dual 2.5 by itself is
almost unusable. Thank god for distcc!
I'm thinking of buying a few new minis to boost speed up a little
more.
You can sometimes find a Dual G4 Xserve on eBay for under $1000.
Gigabit + 2 GB ram strongly recommended for distcc...
