is there a way to save the design diagrams beside using the print functionality? I'd like to add some diagrams to a software documentation.
Using the print functionality I always get a a full page even if i just want to visualize two or three classes :-(

You can select some nodes and lines, and option-drag them out of Xcode onto the desktop or into another graphics program to get a picture of just those nodes and lines. This snapshot will not have the page-sized graph-paper background of models, but rather will have a transparent background.
