Yes, I see now... when I use the symbol SIX_DEBUG instead of DEBUG, the feature works as expected. The message "Linear_Prefix.pch.gch: not used because `DEBUG' is defined" means DEBUG was _already_ defined. The warning was (a) ambiguous; (b) invisible by default.
