I recently read somewhere (I wonder where?!) that there is a switch
which allows a drive to be formatted as case-sensitive HFS+. I know
there were reasons NOT to install OS X on a UFS drive/partition. Is
there any reason not to use case-sensitive HFS+? I didn't enable
journaling until it was "officially" supported, but it seems I could
have done so with little danger. I'm wondering if this is similar?
every once in a while case-insensitivity causes me unnecessary grief
and wasted time.
I made a case sensitive volume (it's a standard option when installing
the OS - look at the drop down there). I was happy.
I then did the standard (for us) thing to make my home directory
FileVault. It complained that it couldn't because it wasn't an HFS+
filesystem. I was sad.
I filed a bug saying that FileVault was being too picky (it *was* HFS+,
it just was case sensitive). Apple closed it out as "expected
behavior". I was annoyed.
So I don't use case sensitive filesystems.
sigh.
