Is this really possible or am I just to stupid to understand the big picture Apple has in mind? In my case I now have to return my new G5 and try to buy an older G5 that still run's Panther.
Any help or comment are welcome

I can only recommend to use the command line tools to get past this. It is what we do for mastering and is the only way I have been able to get things to reliably work after each release and build on multiple systems.
It was very annoying that old Xcode and Project Builder that I still use no longer work under Panther.
