Would updating to Tiger solve the problem?

Yes, there is a case in Xcode 1.5 where an Xcode crash can omit information from the project file, causing that project file to crash when opened.  Both cases have been fixed in Xcode 2.0; opening the project file in 2.0 will repair it, and render it useable by 1.5 again.
