File saving problem.

Hi all,

Ever since I started using XCode, I've been experiencing a problem saving
files. Basically, for various reasons my code is stored on a Windows
machine, and I connect to it by mounting a folder using Samba. The files I
wish to build (.cpp and .h) are dragged in to my Xcode project, which
locates them and builds them with no problems.

However, when I edit the files, particularly header files, I find I can only
save them once. If I try to save them a second time, I get an error
indicating that the file could not be saved. When I look in the folder that
contains the file, there's a new file with the same name and a ~ appended
before the suffix, and that file cannot be deleted until XCode is closed.

I searched for information on this and found only this post which had no
replies: http://lists.apple.com/archives/xcode-users/2003/Oct/msg00302.html.

The problem has become significantly worse since I installed Tiger and XCode
2.0. The problem is now happening far more frequently, with both cpp and
header files, and closing XCode isn't fixing it any more, I try to delete
the ~ file and am informed that it is still in use. I actually have to
unmount the drive folder and remount it before I can edit.

This does seem to be a problem specific to XCode. I can happily edit and
save files repeatedly in TextEdit, but that's not really helping me with the
fact that I can't develop properly on the machine any more. I have, for the
sake of experiment, tried shifting the files to my local machine and that
works but it's not a viable solution.

If anyone's got any ideas on what is causing this, or can point me to a page
that has some kind of workaround or solution I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

- Matt Fox-Wilson
