The items in the pop-up menu are just a bunch of canned search criteria sets that you got when you installed Xcode. The fact that they have functional names likes "Selected Project Items" can be confusing, because one might assume that these are fixed, built-in, criteria supplied by Xcode. They are, in fact, all user editable search criteria sets installed with Xcode. You can define your own, redefine any of the existing ones (i.e. redefine "Selected Project Items" to NOT search selected product items -- not recommended as this becomes confusing), rename them, or delete them.
Simply create a new search criteria, name it "Selected Project Items" and configure it to search in the the selected project items. Or, do something different. It's your choice.
