Now that Xcode 2.2 is generally available, here are some guidelines for
posts to email@hidden.
• Upgrade if you can
Xcode 2.2 replaces and supersedes Xcode 2.1, and works with the same
projects on the same OS. It contains literally hundreds of bug fixes
over proper versions. If at all possible, upgrade your Tiger systems
to Xcode 2.2.
• Clearly state version number in posts to xcode-users
Because users will be using Xcode 2.2/2.1, Xcode 2.0 (for people who
have not upgraded to the .xcodeproj file format), and Xcode 1.5 (for
people who have not upgraded to Tiger), it is extremely important to
let us know which version you have a problem or question about.
• Future releases are confidential
We have not announced any specific plans beyond this current release.
When we answer questions here we will use generic terms like "a future
update" or "a future release" to denote potential future dot-updates
and major releases. Unless and until a seed version of a future
version is made generally available we will not discuss versions by
number, and we never discuss release dates.
• File bug reports at http://bugreporter.apple.com
Please note "Xcode 2.2" clearly in the title of the bug report if you
encounter a new problem that you did not experience with previous
versions. As always, please try to provide the following as
appropriate:
- Steps to Reproduce (as detailed as possible)
- Results and Expected Results (what is obvious to you may not be so
obvious to us)
- Project that reproduces the problem (if you can make it happen in a
simple Carbon or Cocoa application template, please do it and attach)
- Full build transcript (from Build Results window, click the Show
Build Transcript button, and copy)
- Crash log from Console.app if Xcode has crashed or encountered an
unexpected error)
- Preprocessed output of files that fail to compile unexpectedly
The more information you provide, the faster we can isolate the
problem, and the more likely it is to be fixed in the next update.
We hope you enjoy working with Xcode 2.2!
Chris Espinosa
