slow gdb startup time on one computer, not another

  • Subject: slow gdb startup time on one computer, not another

I have a project that links against a custom framework. I usually develop with the project for that framework open, as well as the app.

Lately (last month or three), the app startup in the debugger has gotten really slow (as in minutes). I've had other fires to put out, so I haven't really looked into it. Whenever I would actually decide to hit pause in the debugger, it would take a really long time (10s of seconds) to pause, and then it was always in some unsatisfying place. This is a dual 2GHz G5.

So today I was working on a freshly built out older machine, a dual 1.8GHz G5 with a lot less RAM (1.5GB vs 4.5GB), and my freshly built app came up reasonably fast in gdb in XCode (say 10-15 seconds).

Is there any state/cache that I could delete on my other machine that might be slowing it down? The whole thing (project, files, etc.) is checked into perforce, so I'm not sure what else there is on a given machine that might be slowing me down.

All machines are running 10.4.3 with XCode 2.2, gcc 4.0.1.

Thanks for any insight.
