MACOS_TYPE and MACOS_CREATOR question

  • Subject: MACOS_TYPE and MACOS_CREATOR question

I'm a bit confused by the MACOS_TYPE and MACOS_CREATOR settings.
I have a project in which the value of these variables is empty (I can see this in the list of setenv when I execute a shell script phase), so I was wondering how they should be set. I find no corresponding setting neither in the Target Settings (where I assume they logically belong) nor in the project settings. So I decided to create them myself (using the Plus button). OK, now they are not empty anymore.

My question is:
is it the right way of doing things ?  Is it because the current project is a "nib-based carbon bundled app" that I can't find any Rez related preferences in the Target Settings ? I added a Resource Manager phase, but still this does not insert a Rez Settings category in the Target settings.

If yes (= they have to be added manually
), what about the Type and Creator fields found in the Properties panel. They seem to be unrelated, which is strange. Shouldn't they designate the same thing ?

And another question again: if indeed they are unrelated, is there a variable containing their value?

TIA

Bernard
