Xcode & deployment options

Is it possible to install the product of a target through the Xcode GUI?
I'm asking this because I set up a project[1]'s configuration with the
following build settings:
DEPLOYMENT_LOCATION = YES
DSTROOT = /
INSTALL_PATH = /Applications/ProvaJavaToolDeployment

When I build from Xcode the build succeds but it doesn't create the
target's product, instead it creates two broken alias file in the
standard build products location.

When I build from the command line with the command
% xcodebuild install -configuration Deployment
it builds correctly and installs the product in the defined install path.

So, how can I perform an install from Xcode's GUI?
I can't believe that it's not possible.

Moreover, here [2] Apple says:
"The DSTROOT build setting can be set only in the xcodebuild
command-line specification…"
I set it in the target layer and, from the command line, it worked
flawlessy... documentation bug or Xcode bug?
