The Xcode project file format is textual to begin with. It's just not a public specification.


If not, what other options are there to manage some dozens of projects to align consistency for build settings, paths etc. across 4 targets (Debug + Release on PPC and x86) each?

In Xcode 2.x and later you should be able to use build configurations (stored as files that can be shared) to achieve a lot of what you're asking for. Have you looked into that?
