If you use logical version strings like "1.4.2" in addition to "build numbers" in your projects, you may be interested in a technique I have gotten quite used to for streamlining the process of changing such a string from release to release.

By centralizing the string in a build setting, and automating the configurationg of it with AppleScript, you will never spend more than 5 seconds on such a change again, and never face the embarrassing situation of mismatching version strings in your product.
