When you say "double click" I assume you mean "double click on a file in Xcode's Groups & Files list."
Is the file name displayed in red? If so, then the source reference to the file is no longer valid. Possibly because the file was moved and you didn't update the source reference in the project. Other possible reasons are that the reference uses absolute paths and the project has moved, or the reference used source trees and the definition of those trees has changed. In in case, open the Info window for the offending item and fix its reference.
