jam failed with exit code 1

I have a MacBook Pro and am using Xcode 2.2.1 on OS X 10.4.6 to brush up on developing a WebObjects app. I'm getting stuck compiling with the "Command /Developer/Private/jam failed with exit code 1" error. In browsing the archives, I see that the standard recommendation is to roll back to Xcode 2.1.

Will that run on a MacBook Pro?
