So long as we're plugging, text macros made it into my book (Step into Xcode, Addison-Wesley). Check the chapter on property lists.

Defining text macros is a non-trivial process, but it is very flexible and powerful.

There wasn't enough room in my recent book (Beginning Xcode, Wiley) to cover adding text macros. This is good news for you: Several of the topics that wouldn't fit in the book are available as free bonus sections at <http://www.beginningxcode.com/>. Follow the link to "View notes, downloads, errata..." and download the Bonus Sections disk image. In it you will find a short section on creating your own custom text macros.
