Editor weirdness

Hi all,

As I am new to Xcode excuse me if my question is off-topic. As I was using it yesterday and the CodeSense kicks in it displays a list of completions so sometimes I just want to dismiss it. Unfortunately when I press Esc instead of dismissing the suggested list a upside- down question mark is inserted. Any hints? Thanks.
