I haven't made this mistake on any project since I adopted a "set the version string in one place" system:

It would be fantastic if Apple adopted something like this and made it "built-in" for all of us (including them!) to enjoy.

Hmmm, if even the Mother Ship can't keep the various pieces of its act together, maybe there's a feature request in there somewhere...???
