isysroot and universal questions

Hi,

I try to build a make based static library for ppc and i386. The ppc version should support OS X 10.3.9.
Is it useful to compile the ppc version with gcc 3.3 and the 10.3.9 SDK?
The lib has only C files, no C++. But the application which uses the lib has C++.

Where are the docs for isysroot? I cant find it.
Does gcc 3.3 recognize isysroot?

Chris
