Xcode Project Window no longer displays file names

I'm new to Xcode, running 2.2. I have a project with seveal hundred
source files. At first, i was able to select a group from the Groups
& Files list and see a list of the file names of all sources in that
group. I could then narrow the list by typing into the "String
Matching" entry box. Worked great for a few days, then I happened to
resize the project window smaller for a while and when I later
maximized it, the column showing the file names is no longer visible
in the project window. I've look all over the menus and preferences
and can find no way to get the file names to appear again. There are
menu choices for showing/hiding other columns such as Build Status,
Warnings, Code, etc.
When I select a group, nothing appears in the project window. Any
help would be appreciated.
