Fair enough, but this fact is not present in the "Viewing Global
Variables" section of the Xcode documentation. A pointer from
"Viewing Shared Libraries" from "Viewer Global Variables" would also
be helpful, because this is where we learn how to load the debugging
symbols for libraries. The browser window displayed in "Viewing
Global Variables" lulls one into thinking this is all baked into the
cake, since there is no indication to the contrary.

The browser will display the globals defined in my own code on the
right. But it will not display globals from any of the system
libraries, even the one I know must be loaded. For example, after
creating an embedded JVM and making various JNI calls, I set a
breakpoint and select "JavaVM" on the left hand side of the
Globals browser. No globals are displayed on the right.
This was the case even after I downloaded and installed the
"February 2006 ADC Reference Library Update Download", and cleaned
and rebuilt my project.
