OK. All it says is that using the "install" option will:

"Build the target and install it into the target's installation directory in the distribution root (DSTROOT)."

But I don't want to install it anywhere - I want it to stay where it is in my build directory. And I don't want to have to build my project from the command line - that's why Apple gives us Xcode. It also doesn't explain any of the questions I asked.
