How about using Expose? You can use it to bring a single window to

Thanks, yes, I'm aware of the option. I find Exposé too messy. I
typically have 15 to 20 apps open, running on two screens, and
spotting the window I want from that mess is non-trivial.
I guess once you know the layout that Exposé creates for your windows
you can find the one you're looking for reasonably quickly. But XCode
is not what I spend 100% of my day in, so I've never really felt I
needed to learn how, given the Dock's ability to find the window I
want for every other app.
Human Interface consistency is one of the most powerful attributes of
Mac OS. In the Dock Menus section of the Human Interface Guidelines
in the documentation:
When a user presses and holds the mouse button on your
application’s tile in the Dock, a menu appears. The menu lists the
application’s open windows and contains the Show In Finder, Hide,
and Quit commands.
When I create a new Cocoa document-based app this is the default
behaviour I get, and I see no reason to change it. XCode apparently
thinks different(ly) ;-)
