Set your list subscription to digest-mode and then add a filter to your

be subscribed (non-subscribers can't post), but nothing appears in your
email.

You can also turn off email delivery in your mailing list subscription options. But if you post a new mail to the list instead of replying to a thread, automatic threading in clients like Mail.app will get confused.

The reason is that when replying to a message most clients insert an "In-reply-to" header which helps receiving mail clients to figure out which thread a mail belongs to (even if you change the subject). Incidentally, this is also why it's a bad idea to reply to an existing message if you want to start a new thread, since it will be mixed with the thread to which the original message belonged.

PS: I guess you (Greg) knew all this already, it's mainly for the information of the original poster.
