Why did Apple choose to use mailing lists instead of usenet/forums/
google groups?
Because getting the stuff forwarded to you is so much more convenient
than daily clicking through dozens of web pages? I'm watching a few
forii as well as about 15 mailing lists. Glancing over 50 new
messages in a list is faster than 5 messages in a web based forum.
I really don't want to carry a ton of email around with me
I don't know what's wrong with storing half a million email messages
locally. It surely doesn't make your laptop heavier.
You might want to take a few minutes to set up Mail to your
convenience. Set up one mailbox per list, filter incoming messages by
List-ID into these boxes, disable the sound for list messages but
stick with it for the remaining messages, use message threading. It
can look and work pretty much like a news reader.
